You all know how fabulous it is to really be yourself and live creatively. You make money doing what you love and create a path for your life of delight, where there was none. Until you hit a wall, it's all great. The thing is, once you commit to creating something new, whether it's a painting, a new type of architecture or a new way of growing a business, you're going to where there is no beaten path for you to follow. Or as a client put it to me, "There is no role model out there for me." Like my client, not having a role model makes you by default the leader...with no nice HR manual for support.

So that's it. The downside to living creatively is that there are times when you don't know what you should be doing next. This can happen in a job, it most definitely happens when you're creating wealth. 

Experiencing this unknowingness can be painful. Especially if you're used to knowing all the things you should be doing, even if you're not doing them.

I wonder if this is why van Gogh cut off his ear.

This is why so many people are willing to settle for jobs that suck the life out of them. At least they know what they have to do each day at work.

The good thing about December is that Christmas gives us all so much to do, you don't have to think to much about what your next step is. You can postpone that until January.

If you have enough presence of mind not to have clarity about what you should be doing with your life at this very moment, you're in good company.

Confusion is the state of mind before clarity. Clarity emerges by putting one foot in front of the other.
